How SafeStart Engages Participants |
SafeStart engages participants by a combination of motivation and active participation. They are continually interacting with the presenter, the workbook, and each other to enrich the experience and subtly internalise the techniques. Involving family: Learning the principles of SafeStart at work enables them to teach the same principles to their loved ones at home - a major motivation for many participants. Combining live presentation, multimedia and humour: Participants engage directly with the material through humorous and instructive anecdotes and videos, as well as more serious presentation. Group work: Each session sees them forming into groups and applying the material just learnt to their own lives. Active repetition of ideas: Part of each session involves participants using their workbooks to answer questions which continually reinforce the basic ideas and techniques being taught. Why is SafeStart so successful? The reason is because for the first time in many employees working life, a program is catering to their agenda first (keeping the family safe). The employer agenda (keeping injuries down at work) does not get addressed until their personal agenda is satisfied first.
It’s a win-win situation. The employee gets to keep their family safe. The employer gets the additional benefit that comes from increased learning when people teach something to others. ![]() |
